Why consistent rules matter
When different rules apply with one parent than with the other, children quickly learn whom to ask. That leads to conflicts between the adults and makes rules arbitrary. Shared agreements give the child security, especially when they move back and forth between two households.
Tips for separated families
- Agree on core rules together: bedtime, allowed apps, handling purchases
- Name differences openly when they are unavoidable
- Don't let requests be made twice: agree on who decides
- Don't question the other parent's decisions in front of the child
- Check in with each other regularly, for example once a month
- Involve the child in important decisions in an age-appropriate way
With joint custody, basic decisions about media use should be coordinated. In case of conflicts, family counseling services can help.
How shared management works in Kydly
Create the family
One parent creates the Kydly family and becomes the organizer. The synced family data is stored in their iCloud.
Invite the second parent
The organizer personally invites the second parent. Each uses their own Apple Account.
See and decide together
Both see rules, requests and places and can respond to requests.
One purchase for everyone
If the organizer buys Kydly Monthly or Lifetime, access also applies to the second parent and the children through the family iCloud.
- Up to two parents and four children per Kydly family
- Shared management and additional child profiles require Premium
- For Screen Time management, each child with their own Apple Account must be part of an Apple Family Sharing group
Who should be the organizer?
The family data is stored in the organizer's iCloud, and only the organizer can delete the family completely. In separated families, it's therefore worth clarifying in advance who takes on this role and how you'll handle it if something changes.
Frequently asked questions
Can both parents use Kydly?
Yes. Up to two parents can manage a Kydly family together. The second parent is invited personally; shared management is part of Premium.
Does the second parent have to buy Kydly themselves?
No. If the organizer makes the purchase, the membership also applies to the second parent and the children.
Does Kydly work if we live separately?
Yes, Kydly is not tied to a shared household. The requirement for Screen Time management is that the child is part of an Apple Family Sharing group.
