About Kydly
What is Kydly?
Kydly is a parental app for iPhone families. It brings together Screen Time rules, app requests, family places, help messages, rewards and media literacy in one app for parents and children. Kydly is developed by Giminger Consulting in Cologne, Germany.
Who is Kydly for?
For families in which parents and children use an iPhone with iOS 18 or later and who have set up Apple Family Sharing. A Kydly family includes up to two parents and four children.
Is Kydly available for Android?
No. Kydly is built for the iPhone and uses Apple's Screen Time interfaces and iCloud.
How is Kydly different from Apple's Screen Time?
Kydly builds on Apple's Screen Time and adds a shared family overview, modes such as School mode and Bedtime, requests with a reason, family places, help messages, rewards and media literacy for children.
Can I try Kydly without installing it?
Yes. The App Clip demo shows Kydly with sample data on an iPhone with iOS 18 or later. It does not locate real people, lock any devices or trigger any purchases.
Privacy & Transparency
Where does Kydly store our data?
Kydly does not operate its own family server. Family data is stored via Apple CloudKit in the iCloud of the Kydly organizer and synced with the invited family devices.
Does Kydly sell data or show ads?
No. Kydly does not sell data, does not show ads and contains no analytics or advertising SDKs of its own.
Does Kydly read my child's messages?
No. Kydly does not read messages, photos, keystrokes or calls. In their own view, your child sees what parents see.
How long is location data stored?
Location samples are cleaned up after seven days; place events, requests and activities after 30 days. Syncing with iCloud happens with a delay.
Free Trial & Purchase
How do I start the 7 free days?
During setup, Kydly shows the purchase options after the device check. With “Start 7 days free”, Kydly Monthly begins with one free week as an introductory offer from Apple. You can also choose “Unlock Lifetime”. Apple determines eligibility for the introductory offer per subscription group. Before setting up, you can get to know Kydly for free with sample data in the demo.
Do I need a payment method?
Yes. You start the free week through Apple's purchase dialog; this requires a payment method on file in your Apple Account. Nothing is charged during the 7 days. The website does not offer payment.
What happens after seven days?
Unless you cancel, Kydly Monthly automatically renews as a paid subscription (price in Germany: €4.99 per month) and is billed to your Apple Account. If you cancel in your Apple Account settings at least 24 hours before the 7 days end, nothing is charged. Without a membership, the free basic features are provided for one parent and the first child profile: Screen Time rules, unlocking, current location, location notifications, requests and SOS. Additional child profiles can no longer be managed without Premium; existing rules remain in place on their devices.
How does the Lifetime purchase work?
Lifetime is a one-time, non-consumable Apple In-App Purchase. It does not result in any monthly fees. There is no free trial for it. Price in Germany: €69.99. The price Apple displays before purchase is binding. Lifetime does not guarantee support for all future devices or iOS versions; statutory rights remain unaffected.
Can I switch between the monthly subscription and Lifetime?
The app also offers the Lifetime purchase if you already have monthly access. A Lifetime purchase does not automatically cancel an ongoing Apple subscription. If necessary, check and end the renewal separately in your Apple subscriptions. No automatic credit or refund is promised.
Does the purchase cover the whole family?
Apple Family Sharing is enabled for both purchase options. If the organizer of your Kydly family makes the purchase, the membership also applies to the second parent and the children through your family iCloud.
How do I cancel my monthly subscription?
On your iPhone, open Settings → your name → Subscriptions → Kydly and choose to cancel, provided there is an active Kydly subscription. Cancel a free introductory period at least 24 hours before it ends. For later renewals, the dates and regional terms shown in your Apple Account apply. After cancellation, confirmed access continues until the end of the period stated by Apple.
Apple's instructions for cancelingHow do I restore my purchase?
Use “Restore purchases” in the membership section of the app. Kydly checks confirmed purchases with Apple via StoreKit. Use the Apple Account through which the purchase is available. If a purchase is not shown, check which Apple Account you are using and contact support if needed.
Setup & Family
Which iPhones are supported?
Kydly requires an iPhone with at least iOS 18. Live features require the appropriate Apple permissions, working iCloud access and an Apple family set up for child authorization. You can find current compatibility information on the App Store page.
How do I connect my child's iPhone?
First set up your family in Kydly. The app guides you through inviting or joining and the required child authorization via Apple. Use the current setup flow in the app. Only share invitations with intended family members. Each invited person uses their own Apple Account; for children's Screen Time, Apple's Family Sharing settings also apply.
How does location sharing work?
The location service is activated on the child's device after setup and the appropriate iOS permissions. Depending on the feature, permission is also needed in the background. Location samples and place events are not stored exclusively on the device: they are synced via CloudKit with connected family devices. You manage permissions in iOS Settings.
What happens when I switch devices?
Purchase entitlements can be restored via Apple. The family assignment and iCloud connection must be set up correctly again on the new device. A fully automatic device transfer is not promised; connect the new device using the intended setup flow and then check that syncing works.
Data & Privacy
How can I delete my data?
Depending on your family role, the app settings offer “Delete family & reset Kydly” or “Leave family & reset”. A local-only reset does not delete any iCloud data. If cloud errors occur, deletion may remain incomplete and must be checked again. A participant leaving a family does not automatically mean that all data held by the organizer has been deleted. For further deletion requests, contact us by email.
